QUMS Policies
Our policies give scholars the freedom to focus on what is REALLY important.
Uniform Policy
● All scholars are expected to wear the authorized uniform to school every day and remain in uniform for the entire day.
● The uniform is:
- Gray (6th grade), Orange (7th grade), or Navy (8th grade) QUMS top embroidered with our logo.
- Khaki, Navy, or Black bottoms. (For skirts and shorts, observe the “Fingertip Rule”.)
- Any style of sneakers or black/brown shoes in which scholars can safely be active. (Sorry- slides & flip-flops are not considered safe.)
● Underwear (top & bottom) must be completely covered at all times.
● As per NYC DOE policy, scholars may not dress in ways that “constitute a health or safety hazard or which are disruptive to the education process.”
Attendance Policy
● Scholars must report to school every day and on time. The school day starts at 8:15 a.m. and ends at 2:35 p.m.
● In case of absence for any reason, a note from a parent, doctor, or other official must be brought in and submitted to the Parent Coordinator in the Main Office.
● An excused absence means that the scholar is accounted for. However, the missed work is not excused and must be made up in a timely manner.
● Scholars who need to leave early for any reason must be picked up and signed out in the Main Office by a parent or guardian listed on the emergency blue card.
● We miss you and you miss a lot when you are absent! Make every effort to be present, on time, and in school for the entire day.
Cell Phone Policy
● Each scholar must silence his/her phone upon entry & place the phone into the assigned Yondr pouch. Yondr pouches are opened upon dismissal.
● Parents/families may call the main office or the guidance team at (718) 723-3501 to speak to or leave messages for their children between 8:15 a.m. and 2:35 p.m.
● Scholars cannot use cell phones/devices to photograph or videotape themselves, other students or staff on school property (including school buses).
● Scholars are not permitted to use cell phones/devices during fire drills or other emergency preparedness exercises.
● Scholars are not permitted to use cell phones/devices in hallways, locker rooms, bathrooms, or any other areas on school property without permission.
